Betty L. Simons

Betty Lee Smith Spencer Simons, 93, of Weirton, WV, formerly of Eldersville, PA, passed on to eternal life at the Mary Jane Brooks Valley Hospice Care Center in Steubenville, Ohio on Friday, May 25th, 2018. Betty was born April 29th, 1925 in Frew, WV, a daughter of the late Robert W. and Edith Stealey Smith. She was preceded in death by husbands Wilfred L. Spencer, Sr. and Robert J. Simons; sister Violet Fay Smith Kearns, brother Herbert Jack Smith, and daughter in law, Judy Rose Spencer. Betty is survived by daughter Kathryn Spencer DiCarlantonio of Steubenville, OH, sons Stephen D. Spencer of Weirton and Wilfred L. Spencer, Jr; two sisters Carol Sue Smith Manning Thompson of Westerville, OH and Patricia Ann Smith of Vienna, WV; nine grandchildren including Frank “Frankie” DiCarlantonio III of Steubenville, and several great and great-great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Betty was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church of Weirton and former member of the Eldersville United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School, served as Bible School director for many years, and sang in the church choir. Betty was a retired nurse. Family and friends will be received at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV on Sunday, May 27th, 2018 from 1 PM to 3 PM and from 6 PM to 8PM, where services will be held on Monday, May 28th, 2018 at 11:00 AM. Officiating the service will be Betty’s beloved niece, the Rev. Dr. Susan Spencer-Smith, and the Rev. Carol McKay. Interment will follow at Highland Hills Memorial Gardens, Follansbee, WV.
