John W. Ross, 77, of Weirton, WV, passed away Friday, September 1, 2017, in Trinity Medical Center West, Steubenville, OH. Born August 19, 1940, in Steubenville, he was a son of the late John and Mildred Spurrier Ross. John was also preceded in death by his daughter, Amy McGrail Ross in 1979. John retired from Weirton Steel Tin Mill, after 45 years of service, as supervisor of process control. He was a veteran of the United States Army, member of Saint Paul Roman Catholic Church and the Weirton Steel 25 Year Club. John enjoyed cooking and coaching his girls in softball and basketball. He also volunteered his time for Saint Paul’s School. He is survived by his wife, Janet Salancy Ross; son, Jay P. Dorney (Eileen) of Rockledge, FL; daughters Lisa Gillette (Rick) of Steubenville; Lynn Miller (Jason) of Weirton, Kelly Hackett (Carlos) of Coraopolis; brothers Dennis Ross (Lena) and Harry “Herb” Ross (Mary Jo), both of Weirton, and Edward Ross (Donna) of Steubenville; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Visitation will be held 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm on Monday at Greco Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 11 AM at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church. Father Joseph Konikattil will officiate. Interment will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Steubenville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Saint Paul School, 140 Walnut Street, Weirton, WV 26062.

  2. Lynn and family, I am so sorry for your loss. I worked with your Dad in the Tin Mill for many years, and then had you for a nursing instructor, then had the pleasure of caring for your Dad as a nurse. God bless your family.
