Joseph T. Mankowski, 92, of Weirton, passed away Monday, March 5, 2018 in the Weirton Geriatric Center. He was born September 1, 1925 in Weirton, a son of the late Adam and Bernice Marcziewska Mankowski. He was also preceded in death by his wife Helen Babinchak Mankowski; twin sons Joseph and Daniel Mankowski; son-in-law Harold Pratt; brothers Walter, Frank, John, Stanley, Tony and Ed Mankowski and sisters Mary Kowalik, Laura Rosiak, Ida Bilkowski and Ann Kasprzak. With 40 years of service, Joe retired from the Tin Mill Department of Weirton Steel. He was a member of Sacred Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church, a life member of VFW 2716 and American Legion Post 10. He was also a member of the WSX 25-Year Club, Weirton Elks Lodge 1801, Knights of Columbus 3734, Fraternal Order of Police Associates Lodge #1 of Weirton, AARP and Polish National Alliance. He was a World War II Navy Veteran. Joe is survived by his daughters Jean Pratt and Debbie (Vincent) Oswald of Weirton; Jolene (Tim) Hines of New Cumberland, WV and Arleen (Joseph) Gala of North Port, FL; son Joe (Diana) Mankowski of Weirton; eight grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held Thursday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, where Knights of Columbus Rosary will be recited 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church with Father Walter Jagela officiating. Interment will follow in St. Paul Cemetery, Weirton where military services will be conducted.
