Peter Gus Gegas, 92, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 13th at his home in Weirton. He was born on January 28, 1926 in Versailles, Pennsylvania. He is the son of the late Gus and Anna Gegas. He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Evelyn Dello Gegas. He attended Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio and the University of Wisconsin, Madison Wisconsin and served four years in the U.S. Navy serving as Radioman 2nd Class during World War II and participating in the Battle for Okinawa, Japan. He was employed at Weirton Steel Company for 38 years and was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Church, a Life Member of American Legion Post 10, Knights of Columbus 3734, Elks Lodge 1801, Weirton Moose Lodge 688 and VFW 2716 and contributing member of many other organizations. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 49 years, Dorothy Magrini Gegas, one brother, William Gegas, and one sister, Katherine Gegas Boyd. Surviving are two daughters, Cynthia Demers (Russell) and Robin Greene (Raymond) and one son, Daniel (Terri) and one brother, Tom Gegas. He is also survived by four grandchildren, one great grandson and Evelyn's daughters Barbara Zanotti, Teresa Medaglia (Larry), Eileen Dello-Martin (Tim), their families and many extended family members and loved ones. Liturgy of the Word was celebrated privately on Wednesday, May 16th at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home with Father Anthony G. Thurston officiating. Entombment followed at Saint Paul Cemetery with Military Honors being conducted by the United States Navy.
