SPC Anthony John Bernabei, 21, of Weirton, passed away as a result of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident on Monday, August 7, 2017 in Steubenville, OH. A Weirton native, he was born May 11, 1996 in Pittsburgh, PA, the son of John J. “JJ” and Sue McKitrick Bernabei. He was also preceded in death by his grandfathers’ John Bernabei and Ray McKitrick. Anthony graduated from St. Paul’s Grade School, attended Madonna High School and was a 2015 graduate of Weir High School. He was actively serving in the United States Army Infantry Division, where he had just returned home after being deployed for 9 months on the front lines in Afghanistan. He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in New Cumberland, WV. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his sisters, Audra and Abigail Bernabei; paternal grandmother, Nancy Bernabei and maternal grandmother, Lucy McKitrick all of Weirton. Anthony was dearly loved by many cousins; Kassi and Nikki Robinson; Luke and Caden McNamee; Chase, Austin and Michael McKitrick; Stephanie, Paige and Raelyn Pittinger; Saya Campbell and Ally Furman and Owen and Ellie Totten. He was also surrounded by a wonderful, supportive group of friends. Visitation will be held Thursday 12-4pm and 7-9pm at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton. Additional visitation will be held Friday from 9 until the 11am funeral service at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 140 Walnut Street, Weirton, WV. The Reverend Billy R. Carpenter will officiate. Interment will follow with military honors by the United States Army in New Cumberland Cemetery, New Cumberland, WV. We give God thanks and praise for Anthony’s life. We know that our glorious Lord has escorted Anthony from the valley of the shadow of death to a house of many mansions. All praise and glory to God forevermore. Memorial Contributions may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, Post Office Box 386, New Cumberland, WV 26047.
