emilio bernardi
Beloved husband, Pop and Nonno, Mr. Emilio Bernardi, 92, of Weirton passed peacefully on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at the Weirton Geriatric Center. Emilio was born in Italy on December 7, 1924, the son of the late Giovanni and Lucia Borsei Bernardi. During his early years, he worked tirelessly to provide for his family, coming to America and becoming a part of the Brick Layers Union Local 8, building many homes in his long career. He was a longtime member of Saint Joseph the Worker Church, and a shining example of the American Dream. His death was preceded by his first love, his wife Rena Tomassi-Bernardi (1967); brothers Minetto and Alfiero Bernardi; sisters Elea and Elena Bernardi and great-grandson Greysen Bernardi, whom he lovingly referred to as “Blondie”. He is survived by his second beloved, Rosaria Nissi Bernardi; sons John (Sherri) Bernardi, Louis (Cynthia) Bernardi, and Reno (Lisa) Bernardi; brothers Fernando Bernardi and Tarquino (Matlida) Bernardi; grandchildren Jason Bernardi, Renata (Brandon) Capozzoli-Perrone, Alesandro “Al” Bernardi, Italia Bernardi, and Domenico Bernardi; and great-grandchildren Mayzie and Desmond Perrone. Visitation will be held Thursday 2-4 and 6-8pm at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11am Friday at Saint Joseph the Worker Church. The Reverend Father Anthony G. Thurston will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Paul Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
