kendel rutherford

Kendel LeAnn Rutherford, 66, of Weirton, passed away peacefully on the morning of Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at Liza’s Place in Wheeling.

Born on July 9, 1958, in Steubenville, Kendel was the daughter of Charles Johnston and Kendra Timberlake Keller.

A 1976 graduate of Weir High School, Kendel went on to have a successful career as a Surety Technician with the firm of Reed Collins and Associates in Pittsburgh. She was previously employed by the Bank of Weirton for several years.

Kendel was a woman of faith and a member of the Weirton Heights Memorial Baptist Church, where she found strength and community and served on several committees throughout the years.

She was passionate about giving back and made a lasting impact through her past service as a president of the Weirton Junior Women’s Club and a Wish Granter of the Morgantown Chapter of the Make-a-Wish Foundation.

Kendel cherished visits to historic Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, and the shores of Ocean City, Maryland. Some of her favorite memories were made traveling alongside her devoted husband, Douglas, accompanying him on his work trips turning them into new adventures. She treasured the time spent with her family, finding joy and purpose in their presence.

Creative and thoughtful, Kendel also enjoyed working on Diamond Art, always bringing joy to others through her handmade projects.

Kendel was preceded in death by her parents, Step-father Garfield J Keller, her grandparents, Kenneth and Josephine Timberlake and John C and Gladys Johnston, step-brother Larry Keller, and her nephew, Jason Johnston, who was also her godson.

Left to cherish her memories are her husband Douglas Rutherford of Weirton, brothers Murray (Julie) Johnston of Weirton, Ken Golden of Weirton, Chatt (Theresa) Golden of Wintersville, sisters Flossie (Melvin) Kuhns of Weirton, Timbra Golden of Steubenville, many nieces and nephews, and her beloved great nieces and great nephews, affectionately known to her as her “greats.”
