helen rogowski

Helen C. Rogowski, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-great grandmother, passed away peacefully on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025, in Weirton, West Virginia. She was 95 years old.

Born in Weirton on October 29, 1929, Helen was one of seven children of the late Alexander and Mary Elizabeth Yarinski Pavlik. She graduated from Steubenville Catholic Central High School and later met the love of her life, Leonard Joseph Rogowski, a proud Purple Heart recipient and Army veteran of World War II. Their love story began with a chance meeting that quickly blossomed—Leonard knew instantly he would marry her, and two months later, they became husband and wife. From that moment on, they were inseparable.

Together, Helen and Leonard built a beautiful life, raising two children and watching their family flourish to include three grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. Helen was a dedicated homemaker who poured her heart into her family. She found joy in quilting, knitting, crocheting, and cooking, but nothing brought her more happiness than spending time with her grandchildren and their families.

The Rogowski family created lasting memories each year vacationing in Daytona Beach, Florida from Memorial Day to Labor Day. In their later years, Helen and Leonard bought a home in Bradenton, Florida, and traveled across the continental United States, visiting 48 states together. They were especially fond of attending Rat Pack shows in Las Vegas and cherished trips to Branson and Hawaii.
Helen was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Leonard; her parents, Alexander and Mary Elizabeth; and all of her siblings—Joseph, Alex, Steve, and John Pavlik; Mary Herceg; and Peggy Marino.

She will be lovingly remembered by her son, Jack (Vicky) Gallo, and her daughter, Roberta Rogowski; her grandchildren, John Michael (Melissa) Gallo, Bryan (Merry Jo) Gallo, and Deena (Cory) Lewis; her great-grandchildren, John Anthony (Jasmine), Nick (Jak-Yung), Mia, and Gianna Gallo; Amelia Buettner; Tyler (Cindy), Marissa, and T.J. Gallo; Savannah and Breonna Lewis; and her great-great-grandchildren, John Christopher “J.C.”, Jestiny, Jack, Salvatore, and Vincenzo Gallo.

Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, from 10:00 AM until 12:00 Noon at Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 Noon with Rev. Fr. Tony Thurston officiating. Entombment will take place at Saint Paul’s Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made in Helen’s memory to the Weirton Geriatric Center Resident’s Fund. Helen’s family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the compassionate staff of the Weirton Geriatric Center, especially the third floor Enchanted Gardens, for the care and love they provided Helen over the past 16 years. Special thanks are also given to Valley Hospice for their support and guidance in her final days.
