james cladias

It is with both heavy hearts and profound gratitude that we announce the passing of James Steven Cladias, a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, who left this world on August 24, 2025, at the age of 74. Born on October 19, 1950, in Weirton, West Virginia, Jim was a son of the late Steve L. and Fannie (Palavas) Cladias.

Jim lived a life brimming with adventure, positivity, and dedication. He was not just a resident but a vibrant member of the Weirton community. After graduating from Weir High School in 1968, he pursued a bachelor’s degree in business from WVU, which laid the foundation for his successful career in the family business, Weirton Wholesale Distribution Company. In 1979, Jim married his sweetheart, Linda Pompe, and they enjoyed 46 years of marriage. Jim and Linda worked at the family business, tirelessly, side by side, every day, to build lasting relationships within the industry, and after 38 years, they retired as the owners/operators, sold the business, and continued to enjoy life.

A true embodiment of passion and enthusiasm, Jim enjoyed the thrill of triathlons and had an undeniable love for mountain biking, swimming, and kayaking. He found joy in the great outdoors, relishing every moment spent exploring nature and challenging himself physically. His adventurous spirit inspired those around him, and he cherished sharing these experiences with friends and family.

James is survived by his beloved wife, Linda Cladias; his daughter, Jamie Cyrus and her husband, Logan of Charlotte, NC; his brother, Leonard Claudias and his wife, Nora of Sarasota, FL; sister -in-law, Joanne Jones of York, SC; his grandson, Ben Cyrus of Charlotte, NC; as well as his nieces, Stephanie Claudias of Venice Beach, FL, and Sabrina Benko of Sarasota, FL; and his nephews , John Claudias of Baltimore, MD and Brett Jones of Belmont, NC. Each of them carries the light and love that Jim brought into their lives.

In honoring the life of James Steven Cladias, a celebration of his remarkable journey will be held. Family and friends are invited to attend the celebration of life visitation, which will be held Saturday, September 27, 2025, from 3-6 PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton. We invite you to join us as we gather to celebrate Jim’s life, share stories, and find comfort in one another as he embarks on his next great adventure.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association, www.heart.org, reflecting the spirit of generosity that Jim exemplified throughout his life.

As we say goodbye to James, we remember him not with sorrow, but with joy for the life he lived and the impact he made on all who were fortunate enough to know him.
