Karen Rae Harris

It is with sorrow that we announce the passing of Karen Rae Harris, age 83, who departed this world on December 24, 2025, in Wellsburg, West Virginia. Born on December 5, 1942, in West Union, West Virginia, Karen lived a life with love, compassion, and a profound connection to nature and animals.

Karen is preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Harris, and parents Cyril and Lenore Scott.

She will be remembered by her sister Sandra Brown, niece Delisa Shaffer, brother-in-law Tom Harris, and sister-in-law Darlene Harris. Her family, a constant source of joy, will remember her warmth, laughter, and the countless beaded crafts she lovingly created and gifted to them, each one a token of her spunk and creativity.

A dedicated nurse, Karen devoted many years of her life to caring for others, serving at Valley Haven, Weirton Geriatric, and WMC Skilled Care. Her genuine spirit touched the lives of countless patients and colleagues alike.

An ardent lover of animals, Karen found joy in the company of her cherished pets, especially her cats, pugs, dogs, and at one point, 86 birds that filled her home. She had a particular fondness for plants as well. For over five years, Karen was a proud member of Weirton’s women’s bowling league, where she formed lasting friendships through shared laughter and competition, embodying the essence of camaraderie and community.

Karen will be remembered as a genuine, spirited, and caring individual, one whose presence lit up the lives of those around her. As we reflect on her life, we celebrate the love she shared and the memories she created.

Following Karen’s wishes she will be cremated at Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home at 3219 Main St. Weirton, WV 26062. Karen’s family will have services at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Karen’s honor to an animal shelter of choice, reflecting her enduring love for all creatures great and small.
