shawn cain

Shawn Elliot Cain, 43, of Steubenville, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly at his home on March 17, 2026.

Born on February 7, 1983, in Steubenville, Shawn was the middle child of Allen “Pete” Cain and the late Denise (Alvis) Cain. He was a 2001 graduate of Toronto High School, where he played football and baseball for the Red Knights. His love for baseball continued beyond high school, as he went on to play at the collegiate level.

A talented photographer, Shawn will be remembered for his outgoing personality and the ease with which he connected with others. He was a genuinely friendly person who seemed to be liked by everyone he met. A loyal friend, Shawn maintained many lifelong friendships.

In his free time, Shawn enjoyed playing video games and following sports. He was a devoted fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Cleveland Browns; teams he supported faithfully, a true reflection of his loyalty. For decades, he also gave back to his community as an umpire for softball leagues throughout Steubenville.

In addition to his mother, Denise, who passed away on October 20, 2025, Shawn was preceded in death by his cats, Garfield and Ms. Kitty.

He is survived by his father, Allen “Pete” Cain; his brothers, Carl Cain and Steven Cain; sister, Sharon Cain; cousin, Jason Alvis, and his two cats, Bella and Sammy.

There will be no formal services. He will be cremated by the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home’s crematory.
