alexander fiedorczyk

Alexander Walter Fiedorczyk, 86, of Weirton, West Virginia, passed away on Saturday, April 11, 2026.

Born on February 8, 1940, Alex was one of six children born of the late Stanley and Arlene (Morris) Fiedorczyk.

He was a 1958 graduate of Weir High School, where he was a proud and accomplished athlete, excelling in both football and basketball. He was forever remembered for his game winning interception that secured the state championship.

On June 22, 1963, Alex married the love of his life, Margaret “Peggy” Gilday. Together, they built a strong and devoted family, raising two sons and a daughter, and later cherishing five grandchildren—who were the center of his world and lovingly called him ‘Pap.’

Alex dedicated 38 years of service to Weirton Steel, retiring as a supervisor at the Number 9 Tandem Mill. He was a member of the Weirton Steel 25 Year Club, a proud member of the Knights of Columbus Council 3734, and a faithful Catholic and lifelong parishioner of Sacred Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church.

Alex was a dedicated family man. He was deeply involved in his children’s lives-never missing a game or track meet. He was always present on the sidelines, encouraging them to do their best. Later, he brought that same love and support to his grandchildren. He believed in hard work, discipline, and the importance of education.

Alex was incredibly skilled with his hands and took great pride in building and fixing things. He built his family home—a reflection of his dedication, skill, and hard work. He passed that gift on to his children, and some of their most cherished memories were made working alongside him—learning from him and building together on countless projects over the years.

In his free time, Alex enjoyed playing golf and had a lifelong love of sports. He and Peggy shared a love for the beach and watching sunsets. Together they cherished time together spent with family and friends.

Alex endured many medical challenges, rising above them time and time again, including a life saving lung transplant in 2018. He faced each challenge with quiet strength and resilience, and a powerful will to live. He never allowed hardship to define him—a true reflection of his deep love and steadfast commitment to his family.

In addition to his parents, Alex was preceded in death by his brothers, Stanley, Richard, and Michael Fiedorczyk, and his sister, Barbara Jean Fiedorczyk.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Peggy Fiedorczyk; his sons, Alex (Lisa) and Jeffrey (Jennifer) Fiedorczyk; his daughter, Leslie (Brad) McFall; his grandchildren, Morgan (Nick) Utley, Bradley (Olivia) McFall, and Audrey McFall, Maxwell and Spencer Fiedorczyk; his sister, Theresa (Joseph) Baluh; his sisters-in-law, Mary and Betty Fiedorczyk; as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.

Visitation will be at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street Weirton, WV. On Tuesday April 14th from 4-8 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be at Sacred Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church Wednesday April15th at 10:30 a.m. 200 Preston Avenue Weirton, WV.
