Eric Robb Nejus, a beloved teacher, coach, mentor, and friend, passed away unexpectedly at his Weirton residence on August 20, 2026.
Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on May 13, 1967, Eric was one of two sons born to Ernest and Marianne DiGregorio Nejus.
A passionate educator, Eric earned his bachelor’s degree in special education and continued his studies with a master’s degree at Youngstown State University. He dedicated many years to mentoring young minds and instilling a love for learning in his students across various local high schools. His brother Chad fondly remembers him as an “all-around good guy, always willing to help anyone in need.
Eric cherished the friends he had and the relationships he had with his friends. The bonds they shared and the love they had for each other made them as close as brothers.
Eric was not only a devoted teacher but also a cherished coach, particularly in the realm of high school football. His impact on the lives of countless players at Madonna, Burgettstown, Oak Glen, Beaver Local and Southern Local was profound.
A sports aficionado, he thrived on discussions about football and hockey, especially the Steelers and Penguins, bringing joy and insight into every conversation.
Twice crowned the West Virginia Powerlifting Champion, Eric embodied strength—both physically and in spirit. He had a remarkable ability to connect with people, creating an atmosphere where no one was a stranger. His warm presence and willingness to listen made him a guiding light to many.
In addition to his love for teaching and sports, Eric cherished time spent outdoors, target shooting at the range or fishing at any water’s edge he could find. Notably, he had the honor of chaperoning a European trip for Madonna High School.
Eric was preceded in death by his father, Ernest Nejus.
A Roman Catholic by faith, Eric’s faith grounded him and guided his long-term interactions with others, reinforcing the values he held dear throughout his life.
He is survived by his mother, Marianne DiGregorio Nejus; spouse, Terri Gurrera Nejus, whom he married on September 30, 1995; and his brother, Chad Nejus, all from Weirton. He is additionally survived by his nieces Marisa Gurrera, Jennifer (Rafael) Medina-Gurrera, great-nephew Michael Simpson, and his two fur-babies, Angel and BJ; whom he loved beyond measure.
Eric’s request for cremation will be honored.
He will be cremated at the Greco-Hertnick Crematory, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV.
Services for Eric will be at the convenience of his family.
Eric Robb Nejus will be deeply missed, but his legacy will live on through the lives he touched and the hearts he inspired.

Paula and I are SO SORRY for your loss. Eric was to me a gentle giant. I didn’t know Greg well but I would have liked to get to know Greg better as our new neighbor. May God give you strength, comfort, healing, and peace as you go through the days and weeks ahead. May you find consolation in the knowledge that because of your faith, this was not “Goodbye” but “See you later”. Just as a reminder, we are just up the street if we can help in any way.
