Antionette “Shine” Fair, 79, of Weirton, WV passed away on Tuesday, October 6, 2026.
She was born on December 30, 1946, in Steubenville, Ohio, the eldest of four children born to the late Nick and Ann (Keser) Wounaris.
Antionette was affectionately known throughout her life as “Shine,” a nickname given to her when she was just a baby. It was a name that suited her well. Friendly, outgoing, and genuinely caring, Shine enjoyed people and had a natural way of making those around her feel welcome.
Shine grew up in Weirton and graduated from Weir High School with the Class of 1964. It was there that she met her high school sweetheart, William Harvey “Bill” Fair. The two were married on October 14, 1967, and together they shared nearly 59 years of marriage, building a life centered around their family.
When the future of Weirton Steel began to look uncertain, Shine made the decision to return to school and pursue a career outside the home. With determination and hard work, she became a Registered Nurse. She went on to work for ten years at Divine Providence Hospital in Pittsburgh, where her caring nature was well suited to the nursing profession.
Away from work, Shine enjoyed the simple things that brought her happiness. She was an avid reader, especially enjoying mysteries, and looked forward to vacations with her family at Sandbridge Beach, Virginia. She also had a special place in her heart for animals.
In addition to her parents, Shine was preceded in death by her two infant sisters and her brother, Nick Wounaris, Jr.
She will be remembered with love by her husband, William “Bill” Fair; her son, William “Bill” Fair; her daughter, Amy Lynn Fair; and her grandson, William Jackson Fair.
In accordance with Shine’s wishes, there will be no formal visitation or funeral services. Cremation will take place at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home Crematory, 3219 Main Street, Weirton.
Bill wishes to express his heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff of the Weirton Geriatric Center, especially those in the Sunny Brook neighborhood, for the kindness, dignity, and personal care they provided throughout Shine’s time there. Their devotion went far beyond caregiving, and he will forever consider them not only caregivers, but cherished family friends.
In recognition of Shine’s love for animals, memorial contributions may be made to the Hancock County Humane Foundation. Hancockhumane.org
