bernice redish

Bernice Joann Redish, 87, of Weirton, WV, passed away on April 6, 2025.

Born on November 12, 1937, in Weirton, WV, Bernice was a daughter of the late William and Maxine Mostowski Kuprowicz.

Bernice’s love story with her devoted husband, George Redish, was truly one for the ages. It was love at first sight, and they sealed their bond in marriage on November 9, 1957. Their marriage was a beautiful partnership filled with warmth, devotion, and poetry — quite literally, as George often penned love letters and poems to his beloved Bernice. Together, they built a loving family, raising a son, two daughters, and cherishing their grandson.

A spirited prankster at heart, Bernice had an infectious laugh and an enduring sense of humor that brought joy to all who knew her. While she was lovingly known for her habit of being fashionably late, she was always right on time when it came to caring for her family.

Bernice was a gifted homemaker, an accomplished seamstress who lovingly crafted her daughter’s prom gowns, and a marvelous cook whose meals gathered family around the table. Her talents extended well beyond her home as she diligently worked numerous roles throughout the Weirton area. Her journey included positions at K-Mart, the Post Office, the movie theatre on Main Street, a C&P Telephone Operator, Mary H. Weir Library, the Millsop Community Center, and Carlisle’s Bridal Department. She proudly served as a Realtor with Century 21 for two decades, helping many families find their homes.

Bernice volunteered her time teaching Sunday School and Bible School at Cove Presbyterian Church.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her half-brother Andrew Chicovic, her sisters Loretta Lekavich, Eleanor Canala, and an infant sister.

Bernice’s memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved her: her husband of 67 years, George; her children, Eric Redish (Sarah), Cynthia Husek (Joseph), and Diane Lynn Redish; her grandson, Noah Husek; her brothers, Edward and Daniel Kuprowicz; and her sister, Alexandra Melonas.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 11 AM until the time of her funeral service at 12 Noon at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, Weirton, WV.

Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Weirton

  1. I will never forget her. She was a lovely woman, she made me feel like I was the funniest person ever and she guided me into making the best deviled eggs and I always listen to her stories about Eric when he was young and about George her husband. She was a lovely, lovely woman may her memory be eternal.
