James Patrick “Buck” Kilmartin, 91, of Weirton, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 24, 2024.

Born on January 24, 1933, in Toronto, Ohio, Buck was the eldest of four children born to James Patrick and Mary Miller Kilmartin.

He graduated from Steubenville Catholic Central High School as part of the Class of 1950. On May 14, 1955, he married the love of his life, Mary Jane Cernansky, at Saint Joseph’s Church in Toronto, Ohio. Shortly after their marriage, the couple made their home in Weirton, WV, where they raised their family.

Buck dedicated 41 years of his career to Weirton Steel, where he served as an Electrical Foreman, a position he held with great pride and commitment. A member of Saint Paul’s Roman Catholic Church, Buck was also a singer in the Weirton Steel Male Chorus, a regular at the Weirton Senior Center where he enjoyed shooting pool, and a member of the Weirton Steel 25 Year Club
.
In his free time, Buck found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was a talented guitar player, and enjoyed spending hours talking to his friends on the computer. In his younger days, he enjoyed fishing.

Buck was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Charlie Kilmartin; his son-in-law, Greg Burr; and his brother-in-law, Donald Blair.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Mary Jane; his twin sons, John Edward (Ruby) Kilmartin and James Francis Kilmartin; his daughter, Lisa Marie Burr; his two sisters, Mary Blair and Rita Kilmartin; his cherished grandchildren, John Kilmartin (Ashley), Tiffany Kilmartin, Christopher Burr, and Jessica Burr; and his great-grandchildren, Jack Kilmartin and Emma Burr.

There will be no formal services.

He will be cremated at the Greco Hertnick Funeral Home.

    I am deeply saddened by the loss of Buck. He was like a second father to me, and I have so many wonderful memories of the times we all spent together, times he carted me along on outings, and efforts he put into raising us. I truly feel blessed to have known him.
