Mary Varlas
April 14, 1920 ~ June 16, 2012
Mary Varlas, 92, of Weirton passed away Saturday June 16, 2012, at her home.
Born on April 14, 1920, in Chios Greece, Mary was a daughter of the late John and Clara Svokas Mavrogiannis . She was also preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Stratos (Steve) Varlas on February 2, 1999, a grandchild; three brothers, Elias, Nick, and Stefanos Mavrogiannis.
Mary was a very kind and wonderful mother, and grandmother. She was a member of the All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, Weirton and the Chios Society Agia Markella.
Mary is survived by her three sons, John (Joann) Varlas of Follansbee, WV, Anthony (Jackie) Varlas, and Terry Varlas all of Weirton, WV; her three daughters, Helen Theodosis of Lake Havasu City, AZ; Ann (William) Skiles of Vienna, WV, and Clara (David) Parker of Weirton, WV; 12 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be 2-4 & 6-8 PM Tuesday, at the Greco Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street Weirton.
Trisagion Service will be held 7:30 PM Tuesday, in the funeral home.
Additional visitation will be 10 AM until time of funeral services at 11 AM Wednesday at the All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, Weirton.
Rev. Fr. Frank Milanese will preside.
Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Weirton.
Memorial contributions may be made to the All Saints Greek Orthodox Church.

The best thing my mom ever gave me was your name…my heart will never beat the same wo you yiayia, your love held this family together when papou died. Idk how im supposed to live wo you, i wasnt ready to let you go but i know you needed me to be there with you and i know you were tired n wanted jesus. i know you n papou are my guardian angels n will always be with me.I am so blessed to have had you be there for the birth of my kids and the memories that ill never let go of.ill see you again some day i love you so much n i miss you so much. ill take care of koula i promise you n papou i will…rest easy yiayia, love your Koukla
Clara and Maria, So sorry for your loss. Mary was a great women. So kind and caring. I know she meant more than words could explain to you two. She was your world. You were always there for her and she could always count on you two. She loves you two so much. She will be with you forever and always. She is with her husband now holding hands and looking down and smiling and thanking you for everything you two did for them. She will never be forgotten. My thoughts and prayers will be with you and your family.
Dear Clare, Dave and Maria, Our hearts hurt for you as you grieve the loss of your mom and grandmother. What a great lady she was. And what a gift on Fathers Day for your Dad; to have her in heaven with him. They will both be praying for all of you as you continue on. And you know that one day you will all be reunited.
