Roy Lee "Leroy" Fouty Sr.

Roy Lee Fouty, Sr., 93, of Weirton a loving husband, father and grandfather, who never met a stranger, and would greet you as “ Hey Buckaroo” died on August 31, 2026, in the emergency room at WVU Medicine – Weirton Medical Center, surrounded by the love of his family.

He was born on May 22, 1933, in Earnshaw, West Virginia, the youngest of five children born to Benjamin Franklin and Edna Dale Fouty.
A three-sport star athlete in football, baseball and basketball, Roy grew up in West Virginia and graduated from Hundred High School in 1953. He was all set to play professional baseball, however following graduation, he was drafted by Uncle Sam, an answered the call to serve his country, in the United States Army during the Korean War.

A hardworking man throughout his career, Roy found an opportunity for employment in the Weirton Area. Initially working as a driver for the P & W Bus Company, then becoming a deputy sheriff in Hancock County prior to working for the Ohio Barge Company. He eventually retired from Weir-Cove Moving and Storage, where he spent 28 years hauling steel. Never one to sit idle, Roy also remodeled homes throughout his life and owned and maintained rental properties.

Roy was a member of All Saints Greek Orthodox Church in Weirton and held memberships with the Teamsters, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, and the former BPOE Lodge 1801.

When he wasn’t working, Roy enjoyed relaxing in front of the television. Above all, he was an extraordinarily loyal West Virginia University fan, proudly cheering for the Mountaineers for 86 years however nothing meant more to Roy than his loving wife, son, daughters and grandchildren who he absolutely loved and adored.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin Franklin and Edna Dale Fouty; his brothers, James, Charles, and Ray Fouty; and his sister, Ruby June Chapman.

He will be remembered with love by his beloved wife and the love of his life of 64 years, Helen Kontis Fouty; his son, Roy Lee Fouty, Jr. (Jennifer); his daughters, Stacie Fouty Upright (Curt) and Alyson Degenhardt (Gordon); and his grandchildren, Alayna Brooke Degenhardt, Melina Eleni Upright, and Grant Alexander Upright.

Friends and relatives will be received on Friday from 12 noon until 2:00 PM at All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, 3528 West Street Weirton, where a Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at 2:00 PM.

The Reverend Father Matthew Moore will preside.

Entombment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, with military honors conducted by the West Virginia Army National Guard and American Legion Post 10 Honor Guard.

Memorial contributions may be made in Roy’s memory to All Saints Greek Orthodox Church in Weirton.
