Sophia J. Balla

Sophia J. Balla, 84, of Ellwood City, PA, formerly of Weirton, passed away Monday, April 16, 2007 at the Ellwood City Hospital. Born May 26, 1922 in Pittsburgh, PA, she was the daughter of the late Milton and Milica Rajkovich Mergenovich. Sophia was also preceded in death by her husband John Balla on November 29, 1991, brothers Mike, Pete and George Mergen and sisters Anna Mamula and Mildred Sambol. Sophia worked as a registered nurse and retired from Presbyterian University Hospital. She was a member of the St. Archangel Michael Serbian Orthodox Church in Monroeville, PA. Sophia’s survivors include her sons John Yatsco of St. Petersburg, FL and John P. Balla of Ellwood City, PA and 4 grandchildren. The family will receive friends Wednesday 6-8PM and Thursday from 11:30AM until the 12:30PM funeral service at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton.
