adolph markowicz
Adolph Walter Markowicz, 88, of Weirton, died Monday, May 03, 2004 at the Weirton Medical Center. Born December 28, 1915 in Weirton, he was the son of the late Peter and Mary Zak Markowicz. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Laura Olejnick Markowicz and brother Edward Markowicz. After 30 years of military service, Adolph retired from the US Navy. He later retired from National Steel general office print shop where he worked as an offset printer. During World War II, Adolph participated in the initial landing of Iwo Jima and the Okinawa Campaign. After serving in the war, he was the local Navy Recruiter in Steubenville, OH. He was a member of the Sacred Heart of Mary Church, Sacred Heart Holy Name Society, American Legion Post 10, AARP, and Military Officers Association of America and the WSX 25-Year Club. Adolph’s survivors include his daughters Mary Maggioncalda and her husband David of Concord, NH, Dorothy Day and her husband John of Delaware, OH and Susan Beadling and her husband Dan of Burgettstown, PA; sisters, Emily Olenick and Cecelia Watkins both of Weirton and grandchildren, Kate and Anne Maggioncalda, Jennifer Hager and Primo Beadling. Friends will be received Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated 10AM Thursday at Sacred Heart of Mary Church with Father Kent Durig presiding. Interment will be at St. Paul Cemetery in Weirton where military services will be conducted by the Weirton V.F.W. Post 2716 Firing Squad, the Evert Maki American Legion Post 10 Honor Guard and the Tri-State Marine Corps.
