Albert James “Jim” Rinaldi of Weirton a long- time referee and umpire passed away on Sunday, August 23, 2020. He was 78. Born in Weirton, WV on April 24, 1942, Albert was the son of Albert J and Mary Rinaldi. He grew up in Weirton and graduated from Weirton Madonna High School in 1960. An army veteran, Jim provided for his family by driving a delivery truck for Snyder Potato Chips. He was later employed by Weirton Bus Terminal, as the supervisor of taxi drivers where he retired. Jim as he was known to family and friends enjoyed umpiring and refereeing. He was awarded the Zebra Award in 2010 as the WV and Ohio Football Official of the Year. He was also a softball coach, where he coached the WBA Jr. Girls All-Star team in 1985. Jim loved sports and would never miss a grandchild’s game, going year-round watching them play sports. Most of all Jim will be remembered for the love he had for his wife and family. He and JoAnn were married for 39 wonderful years. All who knew him will remember his great personality, making others laugh, being non- confrontational, and last but not least being a great enthusiastic teacher of youth sports.
