Alex Zak

Alex Zak, 86, of Weirton, died Monday, November 03, 2003 at the Weirton Geriatric Center. He was born October 8, 1917 in Weirton, a son of the late Jacob and Carolina Dul Zak. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth J. Potock Zak April 21, 1999; brothers John, Stanley, Joe and Bernard Zak and sister Victoria Fisher. After 43 years of service, Alex retired from Weirton Steel where he worked as a foreman in the Continuous Annealing Department. Alex served his country in the Army during World War II and the Korean War where he was the recipient of the Bronze Star Medal. He was a member of Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Weirton V.F.W. Post 2716, The Evertt Maki American Legion Post 10, Weirton Elks 1801, Moose Lodge 688, the WSX 25-Year Club, P.N.A. and also served as Past President and Board Member of the Weirton Bowling Association. He is survived by two daughters, Janice Marie Price and her husband Gary of Bartlett, IL and Nancy Lee Zak of Wellsburg; one sister, Stella Krukowski and her husband Ted of Weirton. Alex also has three grandchildren: Jeffrey, Julie and Jonathan Price and two great grandchildren. Friends will be received Thursday from 2–4 and 7–9PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated 10:00AM Friday at Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Father Norbert Connelly presiding. Entombment will follow at St. Paul Cemetery with military services conducted by the Weirton V.F.W. Post 2716 Firing Squad, The Evertt Maki American Legion Post 10 Honor Guard and the Tri-State Marine Corps.
