Alexander Don Taflan

Alexander Don Taflan, Sr., 89, of Weirton, died Tuesday, May 11, 2004 at his home. Born August 19, 1914 in Beclean, Romania, he was the son of the late Damian and Frosina Taflan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Julia Joan (Jackowski) Taflan on March 17, 2000; brother, George Taflan; and sisters, Jenny, Mary, and Elizabeth.
After 38 years of service, Alexander retired from Weirton Steel where he worked as an operator on the #4 Tin Mill Line. He was a member of the WSX 25 Year Club, the Greater Weirton Senior Citizens, and served in the United States Navy during World War II.
Alexander's survivors include his sons, Alex D. Taflan, Jr. and his wife Nancy of Murrils Inlet, SC and Ronald D. Taflan, Sr. and his wife Mary Ola of Weirton; eight grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
Friends will be received Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, where funeral services will be held 11 AM Friday with Rev. Terry Stoops presiding. Interment will be at Paris Cemetery, Paris, PA.
