Alfreda Teresa Lopez Bennett, 76, of Weirton died Sunday January 16, 2011. Alfreda was born on December 10, 1934 in Weirton, WV, the daughter of the late Jose Trujillo Lopez and Lucille Cybulski Lopez. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Robert Joseph Lopez. A loving wife, mother and grandmother, Alfreda enjoyed gardening and decorating her home at Christmas, and watching “Bold and the Beautiful” and “Young and the Restless.” Daytona Beach was her favorite vacation spot, where she had a timeshare for several years. Family meant the world to her. As the backbone and the caregiver, she held her family together with such grace and strength. Her beloved West Virginia Mountaineers were her other passion in life, so much that she was a football season ticket holder for over twenty years. Alfreda was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church in Weirton and the Mountaineer Athletic Club. She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Camden Joe Bennett, whom she married on February 24, 1951; her three sons, Richard (Rachel) Bennett of Weirton, WV, Dr. Robert (Lisa) Bennett of McMechan, WV, and Ronald Bennett of Weirton, WV; her daughter, Renee Lynn (Jim) Lemal of Weirton, WV; her five grandchildren, Nicole and Joey Lemal, Katherine, Jesse and Josh Bennett; her dog, Duke; and her granddogs, Buddy, Angel, Biggie, Rocket and Scout. Visitation will be 2-4 & 6-8pm Wednesday, at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, where funeral services will be held 1pm Thursday. The Reverend Chuck Jerman will preside. Interment will follow at the Chestnut Ridge Cemetery, Florence, PA Memorial contributions may be made to the WVU Foundation.

You were always there for me. You always knew what to say and just to have you hold me seemed to make everything go away. I will do my very best to carry on all of your traditions. I know the family meals just won’t be the same. You know you were the best cook, taught by the best Abuelo and Nanny. I know you are with them in Heaven now. I will help Ron and Daddy at the house all the time. I will continue to do all the Christmas Decorating as you had wished. I will do them early November as we talked about on Saturday. I am so thankful that I was able to watch half of the Steelers game with you on Saturday. We will continue your Mountaineer tradition. I will never forget all the great times we had at Daytona Beach. Holidays will never be the same again without you, but I will try my best to help out and continue the same traditions.
