anthony yurko, jr., md
Dr. Anthony Andrew Yurko Jr., of Weirton, entered peacefully into the family of God on March 13, 2013, in the presence of his wife Carolyn, brother John, and grandson Drew. He was born on September 14, 1934 to the late Dr. Anthony Andrew Yurko Sr. and Dorothy Evans Yurko. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Carolyn (Conner) Yurko. Also surviving are their three children and ten grandchildren which include their eldest son, Anthony Andrew Yurko III and his wife Kimberly (Livingston) and their children, Christine, Anthony Andrew IV (Drew), Bethany and Leah; their second son, Dr. Karl Emory Yurko and his wife Jennifer (Gebhardt) and their three daughters, Sara, Karla, and Megan; their third son, Thomas Conner Yurko and his wife Christine (Moore) and their three children, Conner, Victoria, and Rachel. Other surviving members include his loving brother, Dr. John Evans Yurko and his wife Cheryl of Morehead City, NC, and their six children; his sister, Tegwen Yurko Buckner and her four children. Dr. Yurko maintained a surgical practice at Weirton Medical Center for 30 years, retiring in 1996 to maintain his home, with his love of gardening, dogs, home production of maple syrup, golfing, and mentoring his grandchildren. Dr. Yurko could be seen most days riding his blue ford tractor over his 14 acres, or bent over weeding and watering his vegetable gardens, or collecting white maple syrup buckets from tapped sugar maples on his property with the help of loving friends, Rusty Fish and son, Skyler. But most of all, he will be remembered for his work ethic, storytelling, sense of humor, and dedication to his crafts and family. There will be a gathering of family and friends to celebrate the life of Dr. Yurko on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 from 4-8 PM at Greco- Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, All Saints Anglican Church, 92 McCabe Road, Newport, NC 28570 or to the charity of your choice. 20. Dear Carolyn and Family, Some of the best days of my employment at Iannetti’s Garden Center were the days that the ‘The Doc’ would show up to buy supplies for the garden or merely to shoot the breeze. His stories and colorful banter never failed to impress me or for that matter lose my attention. Some of my favorites were all his stories about Bob Prince and his antics up at Williams. He kept us in stitches! He will be dearly missed. Sincerely, Aaron Adyniec

  31. I was acquainted with Dr Yurko during my employment at WGH and WMC. He was always very nice, smiling, a kind man and treated his patients with care and concern. I remember he would pull a chair up to their bedsides when he made rounds and talk to the people he was treating in a friendly way. He was also nice to the staff members whether you were a RN, CNA, or, Housekeeper. I am tremendously sorry for this great loss in your lives and wish to extend you my sincerest condolences.

  32. Dear Carolyn and family, I am sorry to hear of your loss. Dr. Anthony was an amazing surgeon who was a pleasure to work with. I learned so much while caring for his patients at Weirton Medical Center over the many years I worked in Critical Care. I have fond memories of him making his rounds on Sunday morning, stopping to get a cup of coffee, and reading the paper. His eyes lit up when he talked about his family, his gardening, and his maple syrup and I so enjoyed his stories. In addition, he was a passionate and dedicated surgeon who truly cared for his patients and their well being. I saw him a few years ago at Krogers and he was as nice as ever to me! The world has lost a great human being, but heaven has gained an angel! God Bless you all!
