Arla Michelle (Kirkpatrick) Higgs, 50, of Weirton passed away Monday October 5, 2009, at the Weirton Medical Center. She was born on September 5, 1959, in Weirton, WV, a daughter of Arles M. and Margaret (Peggy) Crago Kirkpatrick of New Cumberland, WV. Arla was preceded in death by her brother, Arles M. “Jake” Kirkpatrick in 1983. Arla lived for her two daughters; they were her pride and joy. She enjoyed traveling and caring for her Maltese dogs, Lucy, Lola and Luke. For about five years, Arla worked outside her home in the bakery of the Weirton Heights Kroger Store. She is survived by her husband, Mitchell William Higgs, of Weirton, whom she married on January 27, 1978; her two daughters, Amanda Nicole Higgs McCormick and her husband Thomas and Julia Sage Higgs Blaschak and her husband Mark; her grandchildren, Darien Nicole and Evan Thomas McCormick all of Savannah, GA. Visitation will be 2-4 & 6-8 PM Thursday at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street Weirton, WV, where the funeral services will be held 11 AM Friday. Minister Larry Barkley will preside. Interment will follow in the New Cumberland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation of the Alleghenies, 700 Fifth Avenue, Fourth Floor, Pittsburgh, PA 15219.
