audrey gress
Audrey Faye Gress, 93, of Follansbee, WV, passed away on Thursday January 26, 2012 at her home. Born June 7, 1918 in Cowen, WV, she was a daughter of the late William and Deborah Jarvis Brady. She was also preceded in death by her husband Melvin Cloyd Gress on May 13, 1983; four brothers, Merle, Orville, Carrell, and Bernard Brady; and three sisters, Pearl Evans, Virginia Huchinson, and Violet Persinger. During World War II, Audrey worked at the Follansbee Steel Sheet Metal Division. Most of her life, she was a homemaker, who loved to tend to her garden, sew, and take care of her two grandchildren. She was a member of the Follansbee and Brooke Hills Free Methodist Church, from 1980 until 1988; she taught Sunday School classes at the Follansbee Free Methodist Church, where she mentored numerous young children. In recent years, Audrey attended the First Nazarene Church in Weirton. Mrs. Gress is survived by her son David Lee Gress, and his wife Lucille of Follansbee, WV; grandchildren, Stephen Edward Gress and his wife Kelly and Daniel Eugene Gress. She was also a loving aunt to several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Friday from 4-8 pm at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV. Additional visitation will be held Saturday from 10 until the 11am service at The First Church of the Nazarene, 475 Colliers Way, Weirton, WV. The Reverend Larry Barkley will officiate. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery, Colliers, WV. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lighthouse Program c/o Brooke County Senior Center, 948 Main Street, Follansbee, WV 26037.

  6. I loved my Aunt Audrey. She was always kind to me. When she made chocolate chips cookies, she always gave me a special plate of them. I visited her often when I would go home. She always said, “I pray for you when I know you’re on the road.” I’ll miss those prayers.
