Barb McCune, of Weirton, passed away peacefully at Weirton Medical Center, after a brief illness, on Monday, September 6. She was 91 years old. Barb was born on March 6, 1930 in Steubenville, Ohio to the late John and Sarah (Doyle) Weinman. She was also preceded in death by her sisters Ruth, Marge (Held) and Helen (Dyson). She graduated from Steubenville Catholic Central High School in 1947. It was at Catholic Central that Barb met the love of her life, Jim McCune. They were married in 1950, moved to Weirton and spent 56 happy, loving and devoted years together before Jim’s passing in 2006. They were blessed with the birth of seven sons - - Barb’s high hopes for a “lass” were dashed! Left to cherish her memory are sons: Pat (Marijo) of Powell, Ohio; Tom (Pam) of Hookstown, PA; Jim of Weirton; Tim (Lisa) of Weirton; John (Ruth) of Pittsburgh, PA; Bill of Glenshaw, PA; Dan (Patti) of Weirton. 18 Grandchildren: Annie, Jimmy, Colleen, Tom, Sean, Katie, Janie, Matt, Lee, Johnny, Joey, Michael, Danny, Alicia, Rachel, Alex, Devon and Patrick; and 20 great grandchildren. Barb was preceded in death by granddaughter Katie McCune Rush and by great grandson Noah McCune Cassella. Barb was also preceded in death by her second husband, Warren Carnel, whom she married while enjoying retirement years in Florida. Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 30, 2021 from 10 AM until 11:00 AM at Saint Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, 229 California Avenue Weirton, WV A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 AM On Saturday, October 30, 2021 at Saint Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. Larry Dorsch will preside. Barb will then be laid to rest next to her husband, Jim, at a family plot in Mt. Calvary Cemetery located in Steubenville, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, Barb's family requests that you consider making a memorial contribution to Madonna High School, 150 Michael Way, Weirton, WV or St. Joseph the Worker Church, 229 California Avenue, Weirton, WV. The family would like to extend its sincere appreciation to the staff at Serra House Grace Cottage for the wonderful care extended to Barb during her last few years and to its residents who became an extended family to Barb. I remember in the 70’s the family nicknamed her, Venus, after the Roman Goddess of Love, Beauty, & yes, Fertility.   17. Barb was a wonderful life long friend to my mom, Jean Dorsch. I have many memories of mom picking her up to go to Elbys for lunch or Treasue Island in Steubenville where they needed extra hands to push the grocery carts as between the two of them there were 15 kids to feed!! I remember her telling me that my four sons would become the men in my life. She was so proud of her sons. My thoughts and prayers are with the McCune family. She was one special lady!

She was a true model of motherhood and the Catholic faith, especially in our St. Joe’s parish and in our neighborhood–particularly within our small ‘community’ on Mellon Street! I will forever remember her as a kind, friendly, warm and patient woman…even after raising 7 sons!!! May God bless her forever!   25. I only met Barb when I moved toGarden Grove in 2014. We developed a quick friendship and enjoyed a few years before she returned to .w. .va, She was such an easy person to be around. We shared the same faith, so we often attended mass together. I have missed her alot since she left.
