Bernard Thomas Kobily of Weirton, WV passed away on Wednesday June 15, 2022. He was 85. Bernard was born on September 26, 1936, in Weirton, WV, one of six children born to Stephen and Rose Nowicki Kobily. Bernie went to Sacred Heart of Mary Grade School, Weir High School and went to WVU for five semesters. On October 1, 1960, Bernie married Susanna Pauchnik. Bernie worked at Weirton Steel, where he retired from the Hot Mill after 31 years, and Susanna worked as a deli clerk at International Market. After retirement they moved to Deltona Florida for 30 years, where they were very active in their parish, Our Lady of the Lakes Roman Catholic Church. Bernie Was a Eucharistic Minister, was active in the Catholic Cursillo, and Christ Renews His Parish, and was the secretary and Deputy Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus 6584. Prior to leaving for Florida, Bernie was active with the Madonna and Sacred Heart of Mary Boosters. He coached both the girls and boys SHM Falcons. He also sat on the Board of Directors for the Sacred Heart of Mary Athletic Board and School Board. In his free time, he enjoyed watching the Steelers, Penguins and Pirates. Most of all Bernie will be remembered for his great sense of humor and helping others in need. Bernie was a member of Sacred Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church, Weirton Steel 25 Year Club, and a life member of the Knights of Columbus 6584. In addition to his parents, Bernie was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years Susanna on January 11, 2022; his brother, Edward and his sister, Loretta Kobily. He will be remembered with love by his brothers, Stephen and Mary Kobily, Raymond, and Marcia Kobily; his sister, Laverne Sutak; his brother-in-law, Jim and Linda Pauchnik, Pete and Betty Fabian; and his good friend, George Gonzales of Deltona FL; many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Friday at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street Weirton, WV from 5 PM until 7 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 AM on Saturday at the Sacred Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church 200 Preston Avenue Weirton, WV Fr. Tony Thurston will preside. Entombment will follow at Saint Paul’s Cemetery mausoleum. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church, 200 Preston Avenue Weirton, WV 26062 or to the Community Bread Basket 3501 West Street, Weirton, WV 26062.
