Betty (Mancuso-Orecchio) Varlas, 80, of Weirton passed away Sunday, January 3, 2010, at the Weirton Medical Center. Betty was born on August 7, 1929 in Lynchburg, VA, a daughter of the late Robert Hula and Eudora Moore Johnson. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Arthur S. Mancuso, on July 16, 1957, her second husband, Joseph M. Orecchio, Sr., on February 7, 1996, her third husband, John J. Varlas on August 28, 2008; and her brother, Trevette Johnson. Betty was employed at Weirton Steel Tin Mill for several years, and held several sales jobs in the area, but most of all she was a caring mother and homemaker. Betty is survived by her nine children, Arthur (Ginny) Mancuso of Bethlehem, WV; Robert Mancuso, Betty (Benedict "B.J.") DeFelice, Michael (Debi) Orecchio, Christopher (Dr. Kara O' Karma) Orecchio all of Weirton, WV; Beverly (Frank) Ticich and Annette (Frank) Krapa all of Follansbee, WV; Mary (Jeff) Corsi of Columbia SC, and Joseph (Lucy) Orecchio of Everett, WA; 24 grandchildren, and three great - grandchildren. Betty was a member of Saint Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, Weirton. Visitation will be 2-4 & 6-8 PM Tuesday at the Greco- Hertnick Funeral Home 3219 Main Street Weirton, WV. Funeral liturgy with mass will be celebrated 10 AM Wednesday, at the Saint Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, Weirton, WV. Rev. Fr. Dean Borgmeyer will preside.   3. When I think about Aunt Betty, the first thing that comes to mind is her garage “pantry” and the volume of food she made for every meal. She was always so hospitable to my Mom and Dad and all of us when we visited. Although changes came through the years, the good memories of Pleasantview Drive will remain. May God grant all of you comfort.

One of my favorite memories of Aunt Betty was the aroma of home made bread coming from her kitchen. (And she always brought a loaf or two over to us across the street.) I will miss her.   21. To the family of Betty, I’m so sorry to hear of Betty’s passing. I had the pleasure of working with her at the Mill. She was such a sweet and positive person. My sister Susan lives on Pleasantview Drive. I remember when her sheepdog (Reggie) got out of the gate and escaped. Betty and her daughter retrieved Reggie and they were kind to keep him in their basement till we came and got him. May she rest in peace.
