catherine castillo
Catherine Marie “Kay” Castillo, of Weirton, a loving mother, grandmother, and talented chef and baker passed away on Tuesday, September 29, 2020. She was 94 years old. Born on November 20, 1925, in Powhatan Point, OH, Catherine was one of seven children born to Peter and Jesse Musker Aperfine. Kay grew up in Weirton, WV. and graduated High School. She worked at Foregash Grocery Store where she met Anthony Castillo and were married on November 28, 1946. Anthony worked in the Structural Mill at Weirton Steel and Kay took care of the home and their two children. They were married for 60 years until Anthony’s passing on October 5, 2006. Kay could be described as “Old School”; always cooking and baking for her family. Nothing made her happier than to sit at a table with her family enjoying a meal. There was always room for one more at Kay’s table. Even though she had heart surgery over 26 years ago and a Leukemia diagnosis over five years ago Kay did not let that slow her down. She was always ready to help out and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also loved playing cards with her friends. In addition to her parents and her husband, Kay was preceded in death by her three brothers, Charles, Peter and Joe Aperfine; and her three sisters, Jesse Wing, Mary Wright and Margie Aperfine. She will be remembered with love by her son, Tony Joe Castillo (Pamela); her daughter, Kathy Snyder (John); her grandchildren, Ron Cross (Kristin), Dr. Tony Castillo, Jr. (Sara); Heather McConnell (Justin); her great-grandchildren, Anthony and Colin “G” Cross, Anna Marie and Alyssa Rose McConnell; and many nieces and nephews. No visitation and private Mass of Christian Burial at Saint Joseph the Worker Church. Interment will follow at Saint Paul’s Cemetery, Weirton Arrangements are in the care of the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home 3219 Main Street Weirton, WV Share tributes at www.grecohertnick.com

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. So sorry to hear of Nana Kay’s passing. She was always a sweet and kind person who we had the pleasure of sharing Thanksgiving with for several years. We’ll miss her smiling face.

  2. Kay will be so missed. From the time I started working with Kathy and we became “sisters” in 1977, she took me in as another family member. Tony and Kay always made Jim and I feel like family. My thoughts and prayers for strength and comfort to Kathy and family at this most difficult time.

  3. A fond memory of Kay’s visit to our home will remain. Sitting on the deck with her and later that evening sharing memories in the living room. May her family find peace knowing she is reunited with family in Heaven. Rest in peace “Aunt” Kay! Teddi and Bob
