Charles "Woody" Wilson, 89, of Weirton passed away Sunday, September 28, 2014 at home. He was born on April 17, 1925 in Wellsburg, WV a son of the late James and Florence Wilson. Mr. Wilson was also preceded in death by four brothers and seven sisters. Charles or "Woody" as many people knew him retired from Koppers Chemical Corp. after 45 years of service in the instrument repair department. He was a member of Sacred Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church, loved to tinker with electrical and mechanical items, was a jack of all trades and a practical man, built and flew his model airplanes and rockets, enjoyed woodworking and built his own television in the 1980's. He was an avid golfer and played for many years 5 days a week at the Woodview Golf Course and later at Mazerowski's Golf Course in Rayland, OH. Woody also served his country in the US Navy during World War II and Korea. Woody is survived by his wife of 66 years Irene Brisky Wilson of Weirton, and children Diana Wilson of Phoenix, AZ, Jeffrey Wilson (Barbara) of Weirton, Perry Wilson of Phoenix, AZ and Christine Wilson Brancazio (Robert) of Weirton and five grandchildren Kimberly Martin, Jacob Wilson, Brian Martin, Perry Wilson, II and Alexandra Wilson. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 2-8pm at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main St. Weirton. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 AM at Sacred Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church, 200 Preston Ave. Weirton. Interment will follow at St. Paul Cemetery, Weirton with Military Services conducted by the American Legion Honor Guard. Memorial contributions can be made to Sacred Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church, 200 Preston Ave. Weirton, WV 26062.
