Daniel G. “Giddo” Thomas, 88, of Weirton passed away Monday, October 8, 2018 at the Weirton Geriatric Center. Born November 12, 1929 in McKeesport, PA, he was a son of the late Albert and Elizabeth George Thomas. He was also preceded in death by his wife Nancy Hanna Thomas, an infant son and daughter and brother Kamel “Cookie” Thomas. Daniel retired from Weirton Steel as a technical service engineer. Daniel played football at the start of his college career at Wichita State University. He received his MBA from Duquesne University and proudly served as Colonel and Company Commander in the United States Army Corp of Engineers. He was a member of the All Saints Greek Orthodox Church where he served on the board and was the past AHEPA president. He was also a member of the Weirton Steel Management Club and 25 Year Club, the BPOE 1801, AF & AM Weirton Lodge #171 and a life-time member of the Brooke County PTA. Daniel is survived by his daughter Rebecca “Becky” Hagwood and her husband James M. Hagwood of Weirton; brother Elias Thomas of Wichita, KS; grandson Zachary (Leah Summers) Sutton; step granddaughter Emily Hagwood and great-granddaughter Olivia. Friends will be received on Thursday from 3-8 pm at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home 3219 Main Street, Weirton, where AHEPA services will be celebrated at 7:00 pm followed by a Trisagion service at 7:30 pm. Additional visitation will be held on Friday from 10 am until the 11 am funeral service at the All Saints Greek Orthodox Church. The Reverend Father Frank Milanese will officiate. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, with military honors being conducted by the United States Army and American Legion Honor Guard, followed by Masonic services by the Weirton Lodge #171.
