david smith, sr.
David E. “Smitty” Smith, Sr., 60, of Weirton passed away, at his home on Monday December 24, 2018, after a four year battle with cancer. David was born in Weirton, WV on August 22, 1958, to Charles and Hazel DiGarmo Smith. He was preceded in death by his mother, Hazel DiGarmo Smith Anderson; and his two sisters, Lori Stevens, and Missy Pope. After graduating high school Smitty accepted a job with the City of Weirton, and worked there for forty years, retiring as the Director of the Public Works. Well respected in his career, Smitty was also able to balance his time with his family. He enjoyed time with his boys when they were in scouting, and he especially enjoyed watching them play sports in school. He would also take them hunting and fishing. In addition to being a pack leader in the Boy Scouts he also found time to help others with his involvement in the Weirton Volunteer Fire Department Company One, and the Red Knights Motorcycle Club. He found relaxation by cutting his grass, and watching his favorite sports teams, WVU Mountaineers, and the Pittsburgh Steelers and Penguins. He was a parishioner of Saint Paul’s Roman Catholic Church. Dave is survived by his wife, Anna Pavel Smith, whom he married on December 18, 1982; his two sons, David E. Smith, Jr. and his fiancé Dr. Lisa Costello of Morgantown, WV; Dustin J. Smith and Brandi Sparks of Weirton, WV; his daughter, Danica Koncoski and her husband Joey of Roanoke, VA; his father and step mother, Charles and Arlene Smith of Weirton; his five sisters, Kim Lucas (John), Jenny Swiger, and Kelly Mixter (Sam) all of Weirton, Jody Pitchford (Jeff) of Martinez, GA and Annie Smearman (Jerry) of Logan, OH; his five grandchildren, Dorian Carter, Chyla and Chylina Peachey, and Julia and Paxton Koncoski; and his great granddaughter, Dayzia Carter.
