David Samuel Weller died on July 11, 2020, in Fort Lauderdale, FL, after battling cancer. As she was during life, his beloved sister Annetta was at his side. David was born on August 9, 1953, in Wheeling, W.Va. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Eli J. Weller and Hantsa Weller. He is survived by his sister, Annetta Weller and her husband, David Epstein; his daughter, Kelsey Petty of Dallas, Texas, and his nephew Aaron Epstein, MD and his nieces, Alisa J. Epstein, MS, RD, LD and her husband, Max Jahl, and Caroline Epstein, MD. He is also survived by many friends. David graduated from Weir Senior High School in 1972. During high school, he worked at the Tiburon Riding Stables in Richmond, Ohio. In 1974, he spent ten weeks as an instructor at the Rawhide Ranch in Lake Hill, New York. In 1975 at just twenty -two years of age, he made his second trip to Israel. He worked on a Kibbutz near Tel Aviv and then traveled north to Galilee. He applied for and got a job at Vered Hagalil, The Rose of Galilee in English, an internationally known ranch near Tiberius, on the Sea of Galilee. His knowledge and skill became well known, and he was asked to train Arabain and Angelo Arabian stallions throughout Israel. He wrote to his father and asked to attend the best school for farriers in the United States. David graduated with honors as a master farrier from Midsouth Acadamy, in Briar Wood, Tennessee. He was then accepted into their surgical program. Upon completion, he bought his own forge and tools. He returned to Israel, and for the next several years, became the most sought after farrier in the country. He also started an import business for Western Saddles and Tack. Eventually, he returned to the United States and opened a successful mobile farrier business in and around horse country in Sterling, Virginia. After he became a single parent, he recognized the importance of being close to family and moved to Fort Lauderdale. He was a very involved uncle and was extremely proud of the three of them. As the horse business slowed down, he became a carpenter and a pretty good golfer. David always showed us that doing excellent work was important. He believed being useful was important… that having a purpose was important. David laughed every day, brought hope to others, shared all his modest treasure, offered shelter, and an open hand to all. David overcame great obstacles in his life and shared his strength faith and compassion to many others facing similar struggles. His humility, respect, and love for others has been demonstrated by the hundreds of calls, texts, and emails Annetta has received just during the past few days. He will be remembered as a loving brother in law to David, Annetta’s husband, father, uncle, friend, and sponsor. But most of all, he will always be a lasting memory as the beloved brother of sixty-five years in the inseparable pair of David and Annetta. A private burial service will be held at the B’nai Israel cemetery in Steubenville, OH, on Tuesday at 1;30 PM. Rabbi Mendy Schapiro will preside. Arrangements are under the care of the Greco - Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV.
