demetrios papaioannis
Demetrios Papaioannis, 93, of Weirton died Tuesday May 27, 2008, at the Valley Hospice Palliative Care Center. He was born on September 25, 1914, in Thebes Greece, the son of the late Elias and Athena Kakos Papaioannis. Demetrios was also preceded in death by his daughter, Mrs. (Ted) Athena Ameredes. Demetrios retired from the National Steel Corporation Weirton Steel Division, where he worked for 30 years in the Mason Department. He was a member of the All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, and the Weirton Steel 25 Year Club. Demetrios is survived by his wife, Eleni_Pagonas Papaioannis; his son, Louie (Linda) Pappas of Weirton; five grandchildren, James (Marina) Pappas, Dr. Harry (Amber) Ameredes, Dr. T.J. Ameredes, Dr. Eleni Pappas, Dr. Alex Ameredes; two great grandchildren, Eva and Dimi Pappas. Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 PM Thursday at the Greco Hertnick Funeral Home 3219 Main Street Weirton, WV. Trisagion services will be held 3:30 PM on Thursday in the funeral home. Additional visitation will be Friday 10 AM until time of funeral services at 11 AM at the All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, 3528 West Street, Weirton. Rev. Fr. Frank A. Milanese will preside. Interment will follow at the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Weirton.
