dewey meador
Dewey R. Meador, 88, of Weirton, passed away Monday May 7, 2012, in the Weirton Geriatric Center. Born in Summers County, WV on July 15, 1923, he was a son of the late Prince Lee and Sylvia Meadows Meador. He was also preceded in death by his brother Van E. Meador, a brother-in-law, Clifford Grist and three infant brothers. After 38 years of service, Dewey retired from Weirton Steel where he worked as a crane operator in the Blast Furnace. When he was not working at Weirton Steel, one of his favorite pastimes was tending to his vegetable garden. He was a member of the Weirton Heights Memorial Baptist Church, where he previously served as a Deacon. He proudly served in the US Marine Corp. during World War II. Mr. Meador is survived by his wife Carolyn Koterba Meador, whom he married July 25, 1953; his son, Gordon Lee Meador (Kim); his daughter, Carol Renee Amendola (Michael); 4 brothers, Chester, Donzie , Dallas and Joseph Meador; 3 sisters, Mae Lilly, Anna Lee Massey, and Jean Maddy; five grandchildren Julian , and Maelin Biondillo, Michaela Amendola, Sean and Jared Meador; 3 great-grandchildren Telena and Dario Biondillo and Isabella Meador. Friends will be received Thursday 2-4 and 6-8PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV, where funeral services will be conducted 11 AM Friday. Interment will follow at Chestnut Ridge Cemetery, Florence, PA, with military services conducted by the American Legion Honor Squad.
