donald pitko
Donald Pitko, 81, of Weirton, passed away peacefully at home Sunday, June 23, 2019. A son of the late Anthony and Margaret Pitko, Donnie was born in Steubenville, OH on May 13, 1938. He was also preceded in death by his brother, George Pitko of Manhattan Beach, California. Donnie was a hunter and fisherman at a younger age and could often times be found on the banks of the Ohio River pulling in bass and feisty crappie. Later in life, he joined and was a long-time member of Pleasant Valley Country Club, prior to joining Williams Country Club, in Weirton. He was an avid golfer, who enjoyed playing well into his seventies. Even though he had 7 holes in one, Donnie said that winning the Blue Coat Championship with his good friend, Charlie “Mongi” Garrison was the best day of his life. Donnie served his country in the United States Air Force, and was always ready to engage in lively discussions relating to current social and political events. He will always be remembered for his ability to make long lasting friendships, with people he met, wherever his travels may have taken him. Family and friends will be received Monday, July 1, from 4 - 6 pm, at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV. All are invited to share tributes and memories at www.grecohertnick.com 304-748-3219.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. On May 13, 2018 family members from Ohio, Virginia, Florida, and California gathered at Williams Country Club to celebrate Don’s 80th Birthday. We laughed and told stories about good times growing up. We all agreed that Don was a devoted son, and brother. He was a wonderful uncle, great uncle, cousin, and brother-in-law. The day was perfect and the meal and grounds at Williams Country Club were extraordinary. We are so very happy to have the memory of that day to hold in our hearts!

  2. May the love of God surround you and your family during this difficult time, May you come to know that the love of God is with you always, May your memories of Donald Pitko, give you peace, comfort and strength… Rest now in the arms of our Lord your mission on earth is complete. I thank you for your service to our Country and my Freedom. You will not be forgotten. My thoughts and prayers to the family of …. US Air Force Veteran, Donald Pitko, is “A True American Hero” God Bless† † Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. John 15:13 †
