Donald J. Benzo, 79, of Weirton died Friday, September 26, 2014 in the Weirton Medical Center. Born on January 15, 1935 in Mingo Jct., Ohio. He was a son of the late John and Mary Timcho Benzo. He was also preceded in death by his wife Irene C. Semanek Benzo in 1998 and a brother John Benzo. Donald or "Jedo" as so many knew him, graduated from Follansbee High School and was employed as a rigger at Weirton Steel Corporation for 40 years before his retirement. Jedo was a member of St Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, a member of the Paris Sportsman Club, an avid hunter and fisherman, wood worker, and enjoyed his garden and canning as well. He was also an avid Steelers fan and spending time with his dog Smokey. Mr. Benzo is survived by his children Tamara R. Benzo of Poland, OH, Timothy A. (Ann) Benzo of Coventry, RI., Nicolett A Schell (Richard), Erika L. Benzo, and Shawn R. Benzo (Darwynna) all of Weirton; nine grandchildren Brandon and Frank Perrone, Ethan and Amy Benzo, Jocelyn Plum, Sarah and Nicholas Schell and Cheyenne and Shayla Benzo; four great-grandchildren Skarlett and Audriee Vilga, Anna Schell, and Austin Plum; and a brother Norman Benzo (Karen) of Toronto, OH. Friends may call on Monday from 4-8 pm at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main St. Weirton. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10AM at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Manuel Gelido as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Paul Cemetery, Weirton.
