dorothy ford
Dorothy Ford of Weirton passed away on Sunday, November 14, while under the compassionate care of the staff of Grace Cottage. She was 83 years old. She was one of four daughters born to the late John and Mary Benzo Kamarec. She grew up in Weirton, attending Hancock County Schools, and was a member of the 1956 graduating class from Weir High. She spent her life’s work as a nurse’s aide at Weirton General Hospital. Dorothy’s friends would often find her quilting or creating something through her love of crafts. She was always involved with some activity, whether it was bowling, square dancing, or bingo. Additionally, she found much gratification in the outdoors, her love of camping and fishing at Seneca Lake, cooking and baking for her family, cheering on the Brooke and Weir High Soccer and basketball teams, or just enjoying her grandchildren, whom she adored. She began her walk of faith at Memorial Baptist Church in Weirton, teaching Sunday School, singing in the church’s choir, and being a faithful participant in the Married Couples Sunday School class. The past decade she was a member of First Christian Church in Weirton, attending Sunday School and was cherished by her church family. Cookie hour and social events at the church looked forward to her desserts. In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, James D. Ford, whom she married on January 14, 1956, sisters; Esther Cleveland, Kathryn Shorts, and Maryann Martinovich, daughter-in-law Donna Ford and son-in-law Jim Adkins. Remembering Dorothy with an abundance of love are her sons James (Janet) Ford of Follansbee, Ernie (Nancy) Ford of Wellsburg, Todd (Angie) Ford of Weirton, daughters Lorries Adkins of Weirton, Jody Goddard and Sherry (Robert) Ball of New Cumberland. Also, her loving grandchildren Amanda Adkins, Brian Adkins, Amie (Sean) Adkins, Kristen (David) Gardner, Marcus (Olivia) Goddard, Neal, Evan (Lisa) and, Chad Ford, great-grandchildren Aidan and Saoirse Adkins, Spencer and Nash Goddard. Dorothy’s family’s request for cremation has been honored. Therefore, no services are scheduled at this time. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Hancock or Brooke County Animals Shelter or the Memorial Fund @ First Christian Church, 3252 Main Street, Weirton, WV. 26062.
