Dorothy P. Buracchio, 88, of Weirton, passed away Tuesday, June 7, 2011 in the Weirton Medical Center. Born October 6, 1922, in Morgantown, WV, she was a daughter of the late Okey Willis and Grace Catherine Montgomery Roupe. She was also preceded in death by her husband Joseph A. Buracchio on June 14, 1999, son Anthony Buracchio September 24, 2010; 2 sisters Lydia Cunningham and Gertrude Mayle Haller; and two great grandchildren, Harry and Haley Smith. Dorothy, a graduate of Weir High School, married her husband Joe on January 31, 1941. Prior to raising her family, she worked at the shell plant in Weirton Steel. After her children were grown, Dorothy worked for Fisher's Big Wheel. Mrs. Buracchio was a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts, and a Girl Scout leader for many years, where she organized sleepovers and get togethers with area troops from WV, PA, and OH. Over the years, she served as a statistician for her husband's baseball and basketball teams. She enjoyed bowling, and working crossword puzzles, but her love was traveling, camping, and planning out all the family vacations. She was a member of the Weirton VFW Women's Auxiliary, past member of the Saint Paul's Christian Mothers, and Four Seasons, and an honorary member of the Jefferson County Sportsman's Club. . Dorothy is survived by her sons James (Erikka) Buracchio of New Manchester, WV and John (Alana) Buracchio of Morgantown, WV and Wheeling, WV; a daughter, Debra (Carl) Taylor of Weirton, WV; ten grandchildren, Erikka, Tina, Teresa, Jeremy, Jeffrey, Brandi, Joel, Anthony, Jr. (Rick), Joshua, and Aaron; 16 great grandchildren, four step grandchildren, Nikki, Bobbi Jo, Dominique and David; several step great grandchildren. Friends will be received Thursday from 4-8PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated 11AM Friday at St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church with The Reverend Father Dean Borgmeyer officiating. Interment will follow in St. Paul Cemetery, Weirton. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association 1111 Lee Street East Charleston, WV 25301

  5. Dorothy,was the mother of 4 children and Grandma Dorothy to my two daughters and 8 other grandchildren and many great grand children. A fond rememberence of someone who unselfishly, always put her children first. May God grant her eternal peace.
