Dorothy Young

Dorothy (Ballas) Young, 89, of Weirton, passed away July 16, 2006 at her home. She was born September 15, 1916 in Hanna, Wyoming the daughter of the late Joseph and Goldie Garrett Stathakis. Her first husband, Mike Ballas and her second husband, Jimmy E. Young; son Mike Ballas; daughter Helen Rose Baldwin; brothers Manuel, Stevie and Petie Stathakis; sister Maria Krupica and her grandson Mark Ballas, all preceded her in death. Dorothy was a former employee of the Weirton Steel Company. She was a member of the All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, Daughters of Penelope, Philoptochos Society, Aghia Markella Society and the Greek Senior Citizens. She was also a Campfire Girls Leader. She is survived by her sons; Joseph Ballas and his wife Charlene of Henderson, NV; Dr. Manuel Ballas and his wife Darlene of Weirton, WV; daughters Goldie Litva and her husband Jim of Toronto, OH and Marie Lauck and her husband Jack of Wellsburg, WV; sister Ola Zapotoczny and her husband Frank of Weirton, WV; son-in-law Charles Baldwin of New Cumberland, WV, and daughter-in- law Betty Ballas of Annapolis, MD. She has 15 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 5 granddoggies. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 18, 2006 from 2-4 PM and 6-9PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main St, Weirton, WV. Additional visitation will be Wednesday from 10AM until the time of service, 11AM at the All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, Weirton, WV. Interment will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Weirton.
