Edward John Wajda, 74, of Weirton, passed away Tuesday, October 23, 2012 in the Weirton Geriatric Center. Born May 25, 1938 in Weirton, he was the son of the late John and Laura Sudol Wajda. He was also preceded in death by his granddaughter Caitlyn Wajda. With over 43 years of service, Mr. Wajda retired from Weirton Steel where he worked as a recorder in the Hot Mill. He was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church and the WSX 25-Year Club. He also served in the US Army Reserves. Mr. Wajda is survived by his wife Carol Burkle Wajda of Weirton, whom he married April 27, 1963; sons Jeff Wajda and his wife Sheila of Bloomingdale, OH, Scott Wajda and his wife Diana of Mandeville, LA and Steve Wajda and his wife Kim of Oviedo, FL; daughter Stacy Amaismeier and her husband Joe of Hopedale, OH; brother Paul Vida of Weirton; sisters Wanda Williams of Follansbee, WV, Irene Richards, Janet Bryant both of Weirton and Antonette Carozza of Columbus, OH; and grandchildren Olivia, Will, Zach, Grant, Alleigh, Chase, Leah and Ellah. The visitation celebration will be Sunday 13 pm. A memorial service will follow at 3:30 pm at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton. Memorial contributions may be made to Indian Creek High School Band.

  7. My father informed me of Mr. Wajda’s passing. I am sorry to hear of your loss. I have fond memories of growing up in Weirton and they include friendships with Scott, Jeff, and Steve. I remember Mr. Wajda as a kind and supportive father. I wish you all peace during this trying time.

  10. So Sorry to hear about Ed’s death. I remember when he lived across the street from me when we were growing up. Now I live 300 miles from Weirton and since Mom and Dad are no longer living I don’t get to Weirton very often.
