Elizabeth "Betty" Furgeson, 82, of Weirton died Friday August 27, 2010, at the Weirton Geriatric Center. Born on September 27, 1927, in Weirton WV, Betty was a daughter of the late Thomas and Henrietta Monseau Mentzer. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Susan Furgeson, two sisters, Doris Robertson, and Beverly Hinchee; a son in law, Robert "Milo" Milosh. She served her country with the United States Air Force. Betty's career started with the C& P Telephone Company as a telephone operator. She then joined Weirton Steel for the next 32 years, starting as an operator and then eventually promoted to the Secretary for the Vice President of Operations, a position she held until her retirement. Betty also was the Secretary of Anderson's Children's Home in Follansbee, WV. Betty was a member of the Weirton Heights Memorial Baptist Church, the Management Club and Twenty Five Year Club of Weirton Steel. She is survived by her daughters, Carrie and Thomas Cooper and Starry Milosh; a brother, Donald and Rita Mentzer all of Weirton; a sister, Georgette Henry and her husband Dee of McKees Rocks, PA; brothers in law, Leonard Robertson and Robert Hinchee eight grandchildren, Wendy Derthick, Shannon (Jason) Mathena, Jamie (Robert) Bell, Charles, Zachary and Amanda Cooper, Ryan and Danny Milosh; four great grandchildren, Andrew and Alexis Bell, Melodee and Maci Milosh. Visitation will be 1-3 and 6-8 PM Sunday at the Greco Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, where funeral services will be held 10 AM Monday. Rev. William C. Stout will preside. Interment will follow at the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Weirton, WV

  1. Grandma Furgeson was the best. You could tell just from being around her how much she loved her family. She was supportive and sweet and never said a harsh word about anyone. I remember her coming to all of our softball games to cheer us on. She is irreplacable and will be deeply missed by everyone.

I wanted to be just like her. She joined the Air Force and I joined the Navy. She had the sweetest disposition. I haven’t seen her in a long time, but I will miss her.
