Ellinora V. Cagna

Ellinora Veronica (Starr) Cagna, of Powell, OH, formerly of Weirton, WV died Wednesday July 13, 2016, at the Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, OH.
Born in Steubenville, OH, Ellinora was a daughter of the late Robert A. Starr and Ellinora Heyda Starr Sage. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Leo Cagna, and her brother, Robert Starr.
Ellinora attended Follansbee High School and continued her education at West Virginia University, where she earned her teaching degree in multiple foreign languages. She also studied French at Middlebury College in Vermont and earned a Master degree from West Virginia University.
She taught for over 40 years most of which was at Weir High School, in Weirton, WV. After retirement, she resided in Powell, OH.
Ellinora is survived by her daughter, Kim (Zegeer) Simon and her husband, Scott; her son, Scott Zegeer and his wife Mary (Jurinko); her six grandchildren, Brandon, Melissa, Michael, Alexis, Madison and Grant. She is also survived by her half brother, Robert Starr; a half sister, Denise Starr; her former husband, Moses Zegeer, and his girlfriend of over 40 years, Judy Blevins.
Visitation will be 1-3 and 6-8 PM Sunday at the Greco Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street Weirton, WV
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 AM Monday, at Saint Paul's Roman Catholic Church, Weirton.
Entombment will follow at Saint Paul's Cemetery.

Scott, Kim, and Families, Your mother was my dear friend, and I loved her. She and I shared the best of times in our years of teaching together, and she, Leo, Kenny, and I had the most fun when we were together! I will treasure my precious memories of her and will miss her forever. I hope that God takes care of all of you at this saddest of times.
Dear Scott, Kim and families . There are no words to express my sorrow at the loss of your dear mom and my dear friend. I have many precious memories from our times teaching in C staff . Our cookie exchange parties and her infamous Christmas parties. Her and Leo were the greatest hosts. we had many good times and shared many ups and downs of life. Missed her after she moved and will always keep her close in my heart.

What a lovely woman and outstanding teacher. I enjoyed years of German language classes with her at Weir High School. We will always remember her as the caring, kind, classy lady she was. Godspeed, Mrs. Cagna. May God wrap his heart around your family, as you did your students.
Please know that your mother gave me the gift of learning to write and speak French at Weir High. Her classes were the best of times. I will always remember her poise and sense of style. May her memory be eternal… Au revoir, dear Mrs. Cagna…
To the Simon & Zegeer families: Our sincere condolences on the loss of your mother. She was beautiful, smart, pleasant & wonderful to be around. She always made me smile when I was around her. She was kind & loved her grandkids so very much! She will definitely be missed by all who loved her & admired her. Again, our sincere sympathies at this time of loss.
Our sincere condolences to you, Kim and family. Ellinora (or Doll, as was her nickname at the time) was my cousin and was born nine days after me in September 1935. My brother, Al, and I want you to know that your family and Ellinora are in our thoughts and prayers. I’ll always remember the summer when we came from California to visit Ellinora and her family in West Virginia and our cousins in Ohio. Ellinora and I walked down a steep hill and across railroad tracks to her grade school, for the last week of 5th grade, before her summer vacation. While we were attending school, my brother (who was 4 years old at the time) went to visit New York with my parents and Ellinora’s mom (our Aunt). Know that Ellinora is with God and that she will always have a special place in our hearts and memories. With our love, Joanne (Heyda) Matus and Al Heyda.

Grew up Ellnoia on Marland Heights. We all hung out together. Her Mom had a beauty shop in her home at the that time. May her soul rest in peace and sympathy to the remaining family.
I was just trying to look up Doll online to contact her and found this. I am so sorry for your loss. My mother Simone Starr was Ellinora’s step-mother, married to Robert Starr, Ellinora’s father. Doll was an adult as I was growing up, but we always visited her & Leo, and Kim & Scott when we could when in Steubenville visiting Grandma & Grandpa Starr. Mom always enjoyed getting the cards and notes from Ellinora giving updates on her children and grand-children, over the years. Mom has been unable to continue communicating for quite a few years now. Simone died July 28, 2016 and I wanted to pass on the news to Doll. It’s so tough to lose your mom, i share in your grief and pray for God’s strength to you all. I am sorry I missed the chance to reconnect with my half-sister. With love & sympathy.
