Emily Blanar, 96, formerly of Weirton, died on September 26, 2002 at the Bon Secours Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Port Charlotte, Florida. She was born July 11, 1906, in Griffin, IL., daughter of the late Peter and Susan Sutak Blanar. Also preceding Emily was her husband, John Blanar, who passed away in 1974; one son, John Blanar, Jr.; one brother, Mike Blanar; and three sisters, Helen Tulenko, Susan Sutyak, and Matuska Julie Kalaffa. Emily was a homemaker, a member of the Saint Nicholas Orthodox Church, a Charter Member of the Ladies’ Altar Society, a member of the Weirton Heights Volunteer Fire Department Ladies’ Auxiliary, and a member of the Senior Citizens Group. Emily is survived by four daughters, Mary Waskevich and her husband John of Punta Gorda, FL., Irene Panhill and her husband Emmett of Sarasota, FL., Emily Jean Mattice and her husband Gerry of Cleveland, OH., and Anna Jane Zath of Port Clinton, OH. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 1, from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM and on Wednesday, October 2, from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton. There will be a Parastas service Wednesday evening at 8:30 PM at the funeral home. Additional visitation will be 10 AM until time of service at 11 AM Thursday at the Saint Nicholas Orthodox Church, Weirton. Rev. Theodore Shomsky and Rev. John Steffaro will preside. Interment will be in Saint Nicholas Orthodox Cemetery, Weirton, WV. Memorial contributions can be sent to the Saint Nicholas Orthodox Church, 604 Colliers Way, Weirton, WV 26062.
