Eugene Anthony Rice, 64, of Weirton, passed away Friday, October 20, 2017 in Valley Hospice Care Center North, Steubenville, OH. He was born November 7, 1952 in Steubenville, a son of Vita Lucas Rice of Weirton and the late Eugene M. Rice, Sr. He was also preceded in death by his brother Robert. Eugene and his wife, Peggy Sue, managed a daycare center in their home. Eugene was a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church. He enjoyed planning picnics, helping with homework and playing with his daycare children. He loved walking and going out to dinner with his family and friends and was a veteran of the US Army Reserves. In addition to his mother, Eugene is survived by his wife Peggy Sue Carr Rice; brothers John (Patty) Rice all of Weirton and Thomas (Diane) Rice of Santa Barbara, CA; sisters Nancy (Nick) Rojak of Weirton, Shirley (Kim) Skinner of Alabama and Mary (Reed) Grabow of CA; several nieces and nephews and all of his daycare children. Visitation will be held Sunday 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, where funeral services will be celebrated 11 a.m. Monday. Pastor Tom Derby will officiate. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 122 South High Street, Morgantown, WV 26501.

  2. Rice Family: I am so very sorry for your loss. Eugene and I graduated together. He was such a great guy; what a Hoot! I don’t believe I ever heard anyone say a negative comment about him. Just a good guy and he made you laugh. Peggy: I met you 1 day at my garage sale.. You 2 were looking around for almost 8 minutes before Eugene ever picked up his head and I said EUGENE! and he hugged me for almost 2 minutes; all 3 of us had a good laugh – my good memory. May God help all of you thru this painful time of your lives.
