floyd gelini
Floyd Waldo Gelini, 87, passed peacefully in his sleep in Norwalk Hospital, Norwalk, CT on Saturday, November 8, 2003. Floyd was healthy and active until taken ill several days prior. One of seven children, he was born to Angelo and Bianca Gelini in l916 in Colliers, West Virginia. He remained there until he married his sweetheart, Lucille Weeda Gelini. Lucille has been his bride for 64 years. Moving to Weirton, Floyd and Lucille raised their three children, Charles, Floyd J. and Nancy surrounded by the warmth and love of the Gelini family and the Vito and Angela Weeda/Guida family including grand-parents, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. An involved member of the Weirton community, Floyd worked in the Tin Mill of Weirton Steel until his retirement in 1972. He was active in the Knights of Columbus #3734, Elks B.P.O.E. Lodge, Moose Lodge 688, The Holy Name Society, the WSX 25-year Club and St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church. Floyd and Lucille moved to Palm Harbor, Florida where they lived for several years before moving to be near their sons in Westport, CT. Into many years of happy family life came two great sorrows; first, the passing of daughter Nancy, and soon after, the passing of daughter-in-law Karen Riley Gelini. These heartbreaks aside, Floyd Gelini was a happy, satisfied man. He valued the simple things. Floyd loved to talk about growing up in Colliers, his courtship of Lucille, his beautiful Nancy, his perfect sons and his perfect grandchildren. Floyd Gelini was a remarkable man. He was kind, friendly and intelligent. He did not complain; he appreciated. His sense of humor created memories that will be shared and reshared. He left a legacy of love and devotion to family and friends; he will be missed every day by many. Floyd is survived by his wife, Lucille Weeda Gelini, his son Charles and dear friend Lauren Wyse, his son Floyd and wife Patti, his son-in-law Edward Ready and wife Kate Maseth Ready and 9 grandchildren, including Edward and Francis Ready, Joseph, James, John and Tom Gelini and Wirt, Michael and Colleen Cook. Floyd is also survived by a brother Howard and wife Virginia, sisters Wilma DeSantis and Ella Di Bartolomeo and sister-in-laws Louise Gelini, Jean Gelini, Marjorie Weeda, Betty Weeda and more than a score of loving nieces and nephews. Floyd was preceded in death by his brothers, Elmo and Walter, and his sister, Dahlia.
