Francis “Bucky” Baier, 68, of New Manchester, WV died Tuesday January 24, 2006, at his residence. He was born on February 11, 1937 in Steubenville, OH, the son of the late Charles and Elizabeth Daugherty Baier. He was also preceded in death by his three sisters, Eleanor Kelly, Charlotte Thompson and Molly Thompson. Bucky retired from Weirton Steel Corporation, where he was a foreman in the Welding Shop. He was a United States Navy veteran. Bucky was a member of the Men’s Club of the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church in New Cumberland, WV, Knights of Columbus 3734, New Cumberland VFW, Weirton Steel 25 Year Club, and the Pleasant Valley Country Club. He is survived by his wife Dorothy Kaczmarek Baier, whom he married on August 16, 1959; a son David and Cyndi Baier of Roanoke VA; three daughters, Judy and J. Marty Mazezka of New Cumberland, WV, Karan and Bobby Valenti of Weirton, WV, Ranea and William Daugherty of Carlisle, PA; a brother, Charles William and Rita Baier of Toronto, OH; fourteen grandchildren, Jared, Elizabeth, Zachary, and Martin Mazezka, Kayla, Matthew, and Robby Valenti, Joshua, Mary Grace, Jonathon, and Jacob Baier, Owen, Ian, and Aislin Daugherty. Visitation will be 2-4 & 6-8 PM Thursday and Friday at the Greco Hertnick Funeral Home 3219 Main Street Weirton, WV. Knights of Columbus Rosary will be recited Friday at 7 PM. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated 11 AM Saturday at the Immaculate Conception Church, New Cumberland, WV Rev. Fr. Douglas Sutton will preside. Interment will follow at the New Cumberland Cemetery with Military Services conducted. Memorial contributions may be made to the Immaculate Conception Church or to the Valley Hospice.

  1. I was so sad to hear about Bucky. I am so glad I got to talk to him right before Christmas. One of my favorite memories is riding on the motorcycle with him and crashing into the house! He was a great person – one of my favorites! You’re all in my thoughts and prayers. Love you, Kathy
