With profound sadness the family of Frank Murphy McElwain announces his passing on October 17, 2021, at the age of 85. Frank was born on August 19, 1936, in Weirton, WV, the son of the late John and Catherine McElwain from Ireland. He graduated with the Class of 1954 from Steubenville Catholic Central High School and took his basketball skills to Xavier University in Cincinnati, OH, where he played Basketball and received his B.S. in Psychology. Frank was married to Theresa Gurrera on July 25, 1970; and they were blessed with 51 years of marriage. Frank worked for Taylor Publishing for twenty-six-years in multiple managerial positions, and as a consultant. Since retirement Frank was a devoted parishioner at St. Monica Catholic church where he was actively involved in many ministries including St. Vincent De Paul, Stephen Ministry, Bread Ministry, and Hospital Ministry. He dedicated twenty years of devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus through the Holy Hour each week. When Notre Dame wasn't playing football, Frank practiced an "open garage" policy, which reflected his open heart and listening ear; "open garage" activities consisted of restoring cars, building furniture, assisting with neighbors' repairs, telling tall tales, and solving the world's problems. Frank is preceded in death by his mother Catherine McElwain, father John McElwain, Uncle Tom, brother Jack McElwain, and sister-in-law Kay McElwain. Frank is survived by his wife, Terri McElwain, son John Murphy McElwain and his wife Dana, daughter Laura Jo and her husband Chad Kline, grandson, Caden, brother Jim McElwain, brother Tom McElwain and his wife Ann, sister-in-law Vera McElwain, niece Ann Feltner, niece Jane Shine and husband Charlie Shine, niece Claire and husband Scott Dowrey, nephew Jimmy McElwain and his wife Ellen, nieces, Rita Marie McElwain Kelley, Maureen McElwain, Mary Margaret Mc Elwain Orsino of Weirton West Virginia, niece Karen Ann, and nephews Sean and Brian McElwain. Frank was cremated. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at a later date at St. Monica Catholic Church in Dallas , TX. share tributes at www.grecohertnick.com
